Where we work and how we conduct business has never been more flexible. Nearly half of all workers say they put in time off the clock and more than half answer emails outside the office, according to new research by CareerBuilder. On the commute to work, we might join a regular conference call while stuck in traffic. We listen to voicemail on the train, respond to questions via text during lunch, and answer email at home after dinner. These are just more signs that business increasingly happens on the go which means that quite often, we handle these tasks using our mobile devices.
This makes simple, easy-to-use communications technology crucial, which is why ShoreTel recently launched their new and improved ShoreTel Connect mobile apps for iOS and Android. In redesigning the app, they took great care to focus on the user experience. The result? A modern, elegant design that works the way you do.
Rather than let features guide their redesign, ShoreTel focused on how users wanted to interact with the app. They began by reviewing usage data to understand which tasks users undertake most frequently, such as calling a contact or joining a conference. ShoreTel then re-engineered the experience to simplify the workflows needed for each, and refined the design by incorporating feedback from users.
Here’s how that research evolved into a streamlined, user-friendly mobile app:
Your Day at a Glance
Upon opening the app, you’ll immediately see a snapshot of your day, including one-tap access to commonly used functions. For instance, the current conference is front and centre and can be joined with just a touch. The latest activities and missed calls are plainly in view. The dialpad – a favourite feature – is just a swipe away, allowing you to easily flick back and forth between dialler and your day at a glance.
Customise to the Way You Work
Since everyone works differently, users can change the new Connect defaults to fit their individual work habits, with greater flexibility to tailor the app to their preferences. You can easily adjust key features, such as silencing the device or toggling VoIP on and off.
Universal Design Elements that Increase Usability
The Connect mobile app features enhanced navigation design which uses standard user interface (UI) conventions that both iOS and Android users are familiar with, such as bottom navigation. This not only increases overall usability but allows for easy one-handed operation for both right and left-handed users. The individual task screens that a user navigates to for older content, such as accessing voicemail and viewing call histories or past events also use familiar UI standards for an intuitive yet visually appealing experience throughout the app.
Uninterrupted VoIP Calls
One of the most important and exciting updates is that we’re now able to integrate calls seamlessly with the native iOS experience. With the addition of iOS CallKit, users can more quickly and easily manage call functions without unlocking their phone and avoid having their ShoreTel VoIP calls interrupted by personal calls coming in on their native mobile number.
With its user-designed features, the new Connect for iOS and Android connects employees and colleagues more quickly, focus more time on achieving business goals, and conduct business easily from anywhere.
The ShoreTel Connect mobile app is available for Connect CLOUD and Connect ONSITE users with Essentials, Standard and Advanced profiles. Authorisation for mobile services is provided by your system administrator through the ShoreTel Connect Portal or Director. Once users are authorised, they can easily download the ShoreTel Connect mobile app from their iOS or Android app store and log in instantly using their credentials.
